Event management is the act of creatively applying necessary professional skills in organizing a focused event by implying the basic principles of project management for a target audience to achieve a desired objective in the development of large-scale events such as festivals, conferences, ceremonies, weddings, formal parties, concerts, or conventions.

Event management is made up of Various Factors –

Understanding objectives – What is the purpose of the event? What experience do we want people to have?

Selecting a venue – selecting a venue may seem simple but the importance of finding the right venue should not be underestimated.

Establishing timelines – determining what has to happen and when.

Marketing and communication – it’s never a case of if you build it they will come: delivering an audience requires marketing the promise of what the event will deliver!

Managing budgets – probably second only to having clear objectives comes effective budget management.

Thinking Sustainable – making decisions in the event planning process that consider the social and environmental impact.

Managing risk – events are complex, as having many elements contributing to an event means multiple possible points of failure.

Event Management is one of the most happening professions currently.

“Event” is really important in our lives as at events we learn, network, have fun, meet new people.

It’s a huge industry which is growing at a high rate globally.

Event Manager is someone who hosts the events and makes money by organising events.

There are different types of events:

  • Ticketed / Non-ticketed
  • Corporate Events – Internal company events
  • Wedding Events – a family event

Another way to categorise events:

  • Educative : Workshops & Trainings
  • Networking: Conferences & Meetups
  • Endurance: Marathons & Treks
  • Sports : Ticketing events for Sports
  • Entertainment : Concerts, Gigs, Food Festival etc

The role of an event manager cannot be completely described in words, but I can briefly tell you about it:

  • team leader- he has to manage a whole team of different departments to organise a successful event.
  • innovative and creative- he needs to be creative and innovative to be able to think about new event concepts and ways to execute it.
  • good spokesperson- he needs to be able to communicate his thoughts to be able to get business and also provide a wonderful experience, during an event.
  • manager- he needs to manage the various elements of the event like props, stage, celebrities, food, team et-cetera
  • good decision maker- he needs to make good decisions to save time, money and to also stay ethical
  • financially, ethically and socially sound individual- there are times, when an event manager has to think about the financial elements of the event, ethical factors and be socially active towards the society to be good event manager and a good human being
  • planner- he needs to understand the various elements of an event and align them in such a way that the event is loved by all
  • creator- he needs to be a creator to stay in the business and change as per his audience.

An event manager is a multi-businessman, who needs to take care of a lot of things that is related to an event.
